Research Areas

The basic research directions are the following:

Biomedical Informatics : The major interest lies in bioinformatics, digital platform for health, telemedicine applications, management, standardization and processing of medical information, cognitive systems and human-computer interaction systems. Goals : The combination of information and knowledge from the cellular level as well as the information level residing in the electronic health record all the way up to the phenotype level for disease cure via a unified biomedical information service space.
Biomedical Engineering : Emphasis in cellular and bone engineering, biological systems theory, bioskeletal systems engineering and bioelectronics. Goal : The analysis of systems that are parts of the human body through the systemic approach as well as the production of biomaterials and devices that can assist in the human body function, and the recording of information which enlighten the function of the organs and systems of the human body.
Molecular Medicine : Emphasis on neuro-degenerative disorders, genetic base of diseases, and molecular microbiology. Goal : The mapping of genes responsible for genetic and metabolic diseases aiming at the development of diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches, methods of pre-birth diagnosis, for the timely diagnosis and the suitable clinical treatment and prevention of various diseases of genetic base such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
Pharmacogenetics : Emphasis in pharmacogenetics, bioavailability, bioequivalence, production of bioactive substances with biotechnological methods and drug carrier and drug release systems. Goal : The development of the scientific areas that can enable the developemtn of the national and European capabilities of drug production.
Research Goals
The development, assessment and the standardization of innovative research and educational products systems and services,
