Global energy - Energy shortages are a crucial global problem for developed as well as for developing countries. Nanofibers offer exciting possibilities for new solutions in alternative energy sources and energy storage.
Water technologies - Adequate safe drinking water may be the most critical natural resource issue facing our world. We will discuss how nanotechnologies may help to solve this global issue:
- by waste water treatment technologies
- by drinking water preparation
- by preparing ultrapure water used in microelectronic device fabrication processes and the pharmaceutical industry
Nanomedicine - Nanofibers offer a broad range of applications in medicine and pharmacy. High surface area of nanofibers, a wide spectrum of spun biodegradable polymers and the use of various active agents as additives combined with nanofibres create numerous opportunities for nanofiber utilization. We will discuss where we foresee its future (wound care, anti-adhesive membranes, growth of cells for tissue engineering and as a carrier for drugs for example).
Environmental protection - Nanofibers bring many opportunities to advance current air and water filtration technologies. New nanofiber materials and applications bring new opportunities to help improve the environment for example by removing harmful substances of exhaust gas and removing submicron exhaust particles.
Open Innovation Strategies - Nanofibers offer countless opportunities for the creation of applications for end markets. Elmarco will share some of its experience.
