The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) visited today a delegation from 24 European countries, consisting of Ambassadors, Chargés d'Affaires, and Attachés. The initiative was spearheaded by the Danish Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Per Fabricius Andersen, and took place within the framework of the Danish Presidency of the European Council.
The representatives were briefed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris, on the Center's development plans and research activities, as reflected in the undertaking and implementation of competitive research projects and the conclusion of contracts with industry, as well as on opportunities for cooperation with research organizations and companies from their countries. They were then guided through selected research facilities and laboratories.
At the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) a demonstration was given of the four-legged robot "KYON," which is used for inspection and monitoring in industrial sites and infrastructure, while at the Thessaloniki Smart Mobility Living Lab, the delegation was briefed on sustainable mobility applications based on real-time and big data.
In the Agile 4.0 building of the Information Technologies Institute (ITI), the delegation learned about robotic service systems, which are manufactured entirely by the Intelligent Systems and Robotics Laboratory, while at the Smart Home facilities, a demonstration of energy-saving technologies was given, combining the use of renewable sources and energy storage (New Generation Microgrids).
At the High Bay Plant of the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI), the delegation was informed about the current challenges in the field of clean energy with hydrogen technologies, carbon dioxide capture, and the materials that contribute to these technologies, followed by a visit to ENERGO/The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Hub for the Research and Adoption of Sustainable Energy Sources and the heavy-duty vehicle dynamometer infrastructure, unique in Greece, for the evaluation of alternative fuels and the development of new anti-pollution technologies.
CERTH already has numerous partnerships with companies abroad and looks forward to further strengthening them. The aim is to develop collaborations with both research organizations and companies, at the research level but also in the business field, with a view to jointly developing innovative technological products.
During the visit, the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thessaloniki, Ms. Katerina Tsapikidou, was also present.Tthe possibilities for further cooperation were discussed, and it was agreed that the representatives of the delegation would convey the knowledge and experience they had gained to the relevant bodies in their countries, paving the way for new meetings and contacts.
