Institute for Solid Fuels Technology & Applications

 

ISFTA is the main Greek organisation of research and technological development in the field of improved and integrated exploitation of solid fuels and their by-products.
ISFTA was established in 1987 as “Centre for Solid Fuels Technology and Applications” and was incorporated into CERTH in 2002 as a Research Institute.
Among its main objectives are:
• Improved lignite mining processes
• Implementation of “Clean” Coal Technologies (CCTs) and combined combustion of lignite and other solid fuels
• Technological infrastructure improvement of the Greek power sector
• Promotion of cogeneration and decentralised generation technologies

 


Infrastructure
ISFTA’s main facilities are located at Ptolemais. It has also branch offices in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Personnel
CERTH/ISFTA employs 30 persons. Among its personnel 5 persons hold a PhD and 10 more hold an MSc.
