In charge of the Laboratory and Deputy Director of CPERI is Prof. Anastasios Karabelas, with over 30 years experience in research and education. He holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from NTUA, as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana, USA. His main research interests are in the fields of process equipment design, multi-phase flow and colloidal systems, with applications in the exploitation of alternative energy sources (geothermal energy, lignite and biomass pyrolysis, domestic refuse, solar cells). He is a member of several scientific organisations and has participated in EU research committees and programmes.
