The Hungarian EU Presidency
[01 January - 30 June 2011]

@ From 1 January to 30 June 2011, Hungary will hold the six-month rotating presidency of the European Union.

@ Hungary will act in close coordination with the two past EU presidency holders Spain (January-June 2010) and Belgium (July-December 2010). The so-called 'trio of presidencies' have chosen a common logo to symbolise their partnership (Euractiv 30/10/09) and said they will strive to provide a model for fostering greater consistency in the European Union's leadership.

@ The Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union wishes to build its political agenda around the human factor, focusing on four main topics

  • growth and employment for preserving the European social model
  • stronger Europe
  • citizen friendly Union
  • enlargement and neighbourhood policy.
