international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992
United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The
United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.
>> On 22 March 2010 a UN-Water WWD 2010 event will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, to mark the World Water Day 2010, with the theme on “Water Quality”, under the slogan “Clean Water for a Healthy World”. The event will bring together policy makers, scientists and eminent personalities to discuss how to address the challenges of degrading water quality around the world.
