The nZEB Smart Home DIH of CERTH/ITI has achieved a European distinction by receiving the Silver iSpace 2026 title from the Big Data Value Association (BDVA). The award ceremony took place during the European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF 2026), held in Ireland from September 30 to October 1, 2026.
What is the BDVA i-Spaces Initiative?
BDVA i-Spaces is a pan-European network of recognized innovation hubs. They provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, specialized expertise, and secure testing environments, allowing SMEs, start-ups, and researchers to rapidly develop, test, and deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data solutions.
The evaluation of i-Spaces is conducted based on rigorous criteria covering infrastructure, provided services, ecosystem impact, sustainability, as well as ethics.
What does this recognition mean for the nZEB Smart Home?
The nZEB Smart Home operates as a real-world testbed (Living Lab), offering businesses and researchers a physical space for the rapid piloting and verification of smart technologies. It provides access to advanced high-performance computing power, specialized IoT sensor networks, as well as real-world energy, environmental, and occupancy datasets. Additionally, it offers technical support services, feasibility studies, and specialized training programs.
The Silver iSpace 2026 certification serves as a European seal of excellence, confirming the technological superiority, service quality, and operational readiness of the nZEB Smart Home at a pan-European level. This distinction significantly expands the infrastructure’s integration into the European AI & Data ecosystem, opening up new perspectives for strategic partnerships and active participation in new EU research projects.
