Best oral presentation distinction for CERTH|CPERI at the 2nd International Conference on Pollution Prevention and Clean Technologies (ICPPCT)

The awarded team of the Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI) of CERTH: Dr. George Karagiannakis, Principal Researcher, Director of ARTEMIS Lab/CPERI/CERTH, Kyriakos Fotiadis, Research Engineer at ARTEMIS Lab./CPERI/CERTH, Penelope Baltzopoulou, Research Engineer at ARTEMIS Lab./CPERI/CERTH

Distinction for the best oral presentation of the session “Pollution prevention” at the 2nd International Conference on Pollution Prevention and Clean Technologies, ICPPCT (Warsaw University of Technology, 1st and 2nd December 2022) was awarded to the ARTEMIS Lab of the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) at CERTH.

The awarded work was presented by Kyriakos Fotiadis (Mech. Eng.), entitled Diesel fuel deep adsorptive desulfurization at ambient conditions with the use of high surface area activated carbons and authored by Fotiadis K., Baltzopoulou P., Karagiannakis G., Zaspalis V..

The scientific work is part of the national research project DeSulfur and is coordinated by CERTH. DeSulfur project focuses on the design, development and assessment of advanced nanoporous materials – such as activated carbons and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)) - for deep desulfurisation of liquid fuels via adsorption at mild conditions.

In the view of current global energy challenges, such approach aims to reduce high energy demands in refineries. Project partners are Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Crete and Hellenic Petroleum S.A..
